Also, just in case you missed it...

Here's the series of postcards I've been slingin around the desert and the bay. Drawn by me, printed by my buddy Jeik of Tanline Printing. I've ended up calling this the 'bird series.' For whatever reason, when my pen hits the paper in a doodling mood, this little guy keeps coming out, and doing all sorts of random stuff. Hope you like them.

Return to the Valley of the Sun

Baseline updates:
I had a very successful surgery on April 19. (Huge thanks to everyone for their love and support) Things went great, and I couldn't be happier with the results.  For the first time in more than a decade, I finally feel like I fit in my own skin again. I was so excited about the quickness of my recovery, I moved to San Francisco to start a new chapter in life. It turned out to be a pretty short chapter. However, brevity does not necessarily equate to lack of experiences, suffice it to say it was certainly an interesting chapter. It involved love, romance, heartbreak, carjacking, unemployment, excellent time with friends, escaping to the redwoods, and a return to the desert.
Sorry folks, that's all the details I'll be providing for now.
So, here I am. Back in the desert. I'll be starting school in December and working towards my License in Massage Therapy and Yoga Instruction. Running is just finally starting to get back on track, post surgery, and it feels fantastic. My posture has changed completely, and as a result, I'm ironing out a lot of kinks in my running form, but I think its all for the better. I was able to volunteer at this year's Javelina Jundred this past weekend, and I plan to make my re-introduction to the Ultra World at the end of the year, running the 72hour portion of the Across the Years Race. It will be my first timed event, and a huge mental challenge to keep myself motivated to run around in circles. If all goes well, I'll get 200 miles or more under my belt. We'll see.

What else I've been up to:
I've been working hard on creating a new series of woodblock prints. The hustle of raising money for surgery was a nice and much needed kick in the pants to get back into the swing of creating art. I sold lots of postcards in San Francisco, people really loved them, and I decided to make a more 'fine art' set of woodblock cuts, and see how they do. I'm still working on finding locations in the valley to sell my work, and will hopefully continue to sell my new prints at Viracocha in San Francisco.

Here's a taste of some of the new stuff:

Birthday Cake!
gambel quail.
gila monster.

black and white butterfly

multi-color butterfly

All of these prints are made on BFK Rives archival quality 100% cotton rag paper, and measure approximately 5.5 x 6 inches and are blank on the inside.

Having just gotten back on the grid, with regular access to a computer and electricity, I'm working on creating a separate website solely for my prints, but for now, they'll just have to share a space with my ramblings.

So, that's the brief update. Hope this finds everyone well!

Peace

Absence makes the heart grow fonder...

Once again, a giant lapse in posts...but so it goes. It's a combination of being incredibly busy and not owning a computer...at least, that's what I tell myself.

So, here's some of what I've been busy with:
Started having some real crazy pains in my chest in the fall, led to some needle biopsies which fortunately came back benign, but still raised concerns. Weighed the options and made the decision to go ahead and do the preemptive strike solution and raise the money for a subcutaneous bilateral mastectomy. (I've never been comfortable with having breasts anyways, so I guess this works out) Unfortunately, insurance does not cover such procedures, so I'm on my own to raise the money, and I've been hustling! My art show being part of the hustle, I've been very busy making new art and putting together small community events to raise money. Also, at the suggestion of my roommate, I started this website.
In addition to all that, I've been stressed out with work, in that I'm trying to wrap up the last 3 years of my job, my garden project and everything else before moving on to other things. Other things including heading briefly  back to the Bay area and then Alaskan adventures with my sweetheart, and I'm very excited about that. Been running when I can, but nothing consistent. I really can't wait to run through the headlands again, and I'm truly ready for my mind to be absolutely blown by running in Alaska...getting everything back on track in time to be back at Javelina Jundred this October for another great costume and a 100 MILE buckle. (While I do love my 100K buckle, I'm ready for the next phase.)
So, that about sums it up. I thought I'd post some pics from my art show. If you're anywhere near Tucson in the next month or so, go check it out. Cafe Passe, 415 N. 4th Ave. If nothing else, stop in and get some great coffee, or a cocktail, and buy a postcard or two. Viva la correspondencia!
